In order to keep a sense of humor about our lengthy house hunt, we joked that we were shopping for just the right backyard for Guinness. We found that yard, and the house that sits on it, and bought it in 2008. In January 2013, we also added Marcy to the pack, making it Guinness & Marcy’s Yard.
Since we moved in, we’ve been busy making our house a home.
The house was in great mechanical shape: built in 1985, it had a new roof, furnace, water heater, and air conditioner within the couple of years prior to being listed for sale. The only problem that was found in the home inspection (mold in the attic from an improperly vented bathroom fan) was remediated during escrow. More than anything, it needed fresh paint and a leap from the 1980’s into the present. Most of the rooms had original jewel tone carpet, wallpaper, bright colors, brass hardware, honey oak, and holes in the walls from decorative plates that were in every. single. room.
We’re working, little by little, to turn it into a house that’s comfortable to live in and to visit, functional, and attractive. We hope you enjoy some of our “befores and afters”!
